Ok, two posts? (account deleted) on 21 Oct 2009 14:24 |

Why is it not like the original "advanced forum" where the first page made is the first post? Looks good though!
Ooo, a suggestion: use CSS to get rid of the "short description of changes" box. There's already too many places to enter text.
Well, when I was creating this I thought that it would be best to break everything down into their basic components. The first post is a post, after all… so it should be in the post category, and not the thread category.
By doing it this way it means that the first post can be deleted, and the thread will still exist. Whether you consider that to be a useful feature, or useless addition that just causes more problems than it solves… is up to you. I'm still not sure about whether the change was worth it.
There should be a way to keep it the way it is, but to hide away the fact that two pages are being created. As I'm a bit limited on time at the moment, this and other projects have been put on a standstill for a while. Christmas should see several changes to everything in Wikidot I can get my hands on :P I have lots of ideas and suggestions to make, but it won't be until then that I can help to implement them.
Hiding the 'short description of changes' box is a good idea. Will do that now :)
By the way, if you're a member I'll promote you to admin now.. if not, feel free to join and send me a PM,so that I know when to upgrade/promote you.
Hmmm philosophical :) (account deleted) on 22 Oct 2009 15:05 |

Yeah I am a member.
The other problem with this method it the lack of signature. The comment system is just so easy to set up at the moment so I'll be sticking with it for the time being.
I'll have some thoughts on this system and let you know what I can come up with. I reckon it'll be easier once the data form module is finished (maybe). Or it could be run via tags rather than categories… I'll have a think :)
I look forward to your suggestions, then :)
Not sure where you're heading with the tags idea — can you elaborate?
edit: Editing this post just to test a new feature! =)

I also like the idea of this and am testing its features. As for joining the site, I already did, but I didn't ask first. So I'm formally asking now. If you don't want me as a member, please don't ban, just remove me as a member.
Also, I edited something, it was wstone's first post in his latest thread. I renamed it post:24 from post because it wasn't showing up in his thread.
Feel free to change what you like - as it can always just be reversed if the need arises. Just don't go around deleting a ton of pages, because that's irreversible especially if the page is needed for some reason XD
When I get around to it / get some time, I'm going to add support for signatures to this forum.

Thanks for the open arms. I saw a counting problem for the general discussion section on the start page, I forgot to mention it and was wondering what was the problem with that and how you fixed it, as it is no longer malfunctioning. Was it just a lag or some cache related problem?
Not sure what you mean by "counting problem" ?
…is that you can use CSIs! :) Like this: http://shane.wikify.me/blog:20
[[include :leiger:module:thankyou]]
Included page "module:thankyou" does not exist (create it now)
Numbering of Threads Ss_Sins_Insight on 03 Dec 2009 06:18 |

On the starting page, there is the list of sections, with the number of threads they have right next to their name. When wstone created a sixth thread, making the number of threads in general discussion five total, it was only showing that there were only four threads in the general discussion. With you not knowing about the problem, I'm assuming that its a time-based problem that fixed itself because now there are the correct number of threads shown, five.
You may want to test it out yourself (although it may just be a problem with my browser) by creating a new thread and see if its just that.
Sounds like a cache problem to me, whether that be through the browser or Wikidot's internal cache, I don't know.
How should I test it? Create a new thread then look to see if it appears in the list? :S
edit: Created a thread and it seemed to appear straight away…
It not the list, its the count Ss_Sins_Insight on 09 Dec 2009 10:17 |

see the title
It's just a caching issue… a similar thing happens with the %%comments%% variable when counting the number of comments on a page… it usually takes about 5-10 minutes to update.
Hey, I've removed the need to "post" twice now. Just type your text on the original thread page. There were reasons for keeping it separate, but for the sake of usability, they can be sacrificed (whatever the reasons were, I've forgotten them now, but they'll probably come back to nip me in the butt later now that I've changed everything)
Also, try editing your posts. It should be much more natural now :) No more "Click here to return to the thread"
And if you click on a post from an email, you'll be redirected to the thread instead of the post, as you should be :)
